Urgent Warning: Baby Formula Pulled from Stores Due to Toxic Substance

Nestlé announced late Monday that it is recalling specific batches of its “Sama” baby formula and follow-on milk due to concerns that they may contain a toxic substance that could cause unpleasant health symptoms.

In partnership with the UK Food Standards Agency, Nestlé explained that this action is due to the possible presence of a harmful substance known as ceramide, which may lead to nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps. The agency has published a list of the affected batches that consumers are advised not to consume.

The Food Standards Agency warned that ceramide is highly heat-stable, making it impossible to eliminate its effects through cooking, boiling water, or during the preparation of baby formula. Symptoms can manifest quickly if the product is consumed.

As of now, Nestlé has confirmed that there have been no reported cases of illness linked to these products. The company has established customer service numbers in the UK and Ireland to facilitate refunds for affected consumers.

Emphasizing its commitment to safety, Nestlé noted that this voluntary recall is in line with its strict protocols regarding product quality and safety.
